Halloween Night
A downloadable game for Windows
Halloween Night
A 2D survival game that was developed using my engine that I designed specifically for this game during a 7- days game jam, but with enough flexibility to handle feature-rich games with similar mechanics. My focus is primarily on game engine and systems programming, and Halloween Night is a practical demonstration of that. The engine itself took the majority of the 7-days development period (6 days), with just a day dedicated to working the gameplay.
How to Play
The gameplay is straightforward:
- Goal: Survive as long as possible by taking down waves of enemy orcs.
- Controls: Use the arrow keys or W/A/S/D to move and press space to attack.
- Challenge: Hit the enemies before they hit you! With each new level, more enemies spawn across a wider range, making it increasingly difficult to survive.
As the difficulty ramps up, it becomes impossible to progress beyond certain levels—this game isn’t meant to be “beaten”.
Halloween Night has a lot of potential for expansion, but the primary intent here was to test the engine's capabilities. This engine is built to handle complex mechanics, even if they aren’t fully showcased here.
Credits
- Game Programmer & Designer: Saeb K. H. Naser (@Saeb0x)
- Sound Designer: Huge thanks to Eliot (@Eliotsoundd) for his fantastic sound design. Eliot created an array of atmospheric sound effects for Halloween Night, many of which couldn’t be fully utilized here due to the limited gameplay mechanics. Nevertheless, his work brought life to the game’s ambiance, and his talent shines through every sound included!
- Art Assets: Special thanks to the talented artists who provided public-use assets, essential in shaping the game's visuals.
Install instructions
The game is released for x64 Windows systems and has been tested on Windows only so far. If you're interested in diving into the code, grab the additional .rar file which contains the full source code, including the custom engine built specifically for this project.
